Have an exhaust question? Read on to get the answers to common exhaust questions.

Q: What does N/A and N/R mean under an illustrated part or part number in the Walker catalog?

A: NA = Not Available, NR = Not Required

Q: Why do the part numbers for my application have a diamond shaped footnote next to them?

A: The diamond footnote indicates that the OE system was a one-piece welded assembly. Walker can use a combination of multiple parts to replace the complete OE-welded assembly.

Q: What is a chassis cab?

A: This is a vehicle that is ordered from the factory without the bed, which is then up fitted for commercial use with a tool box, flat bed or dump box.

Q: Your Quiet-Flow® SS muffler states it is stainless steel. Why does a magnet stick to it?

A: Our Quiet-Flow SS muffler is constructed of 409 grade stainless steel, which is magnetic. Most grades of stainless steel, with the exception of the 300 series grades, are attracted to a magnet.

Q: Should I use a saddle clamp or band clamp to secure my exhaust joints?

A: Saddle clamps make good tight connections, however saddle clamps crimp the pipe and make it very difficult to separate the connection once clamped down. Band clamps do not crimp the pipe and make disconnecting and reconnecting those exhaust joints easy, but the sealing ability is not as good as the saddle clamp. It may be necessary to use exhaust sealer compound at the connections to get a leak-free seal when using the band clamps. Band clamps should be checked and re-torqued periodically because they can loosen up with use over time.

Q: What’s the difference between the premium Quiet-Flow SS muffler and the SoundFX muffler?

A: The premium Quiet-Flow SS muffler is going to have the best sound quality, direct-fit, durability, and warranty. The SoundFX is an economical replacement muffler.
