How to Install Walker 16581 Catalytic Converter Support Bracket

Challenge: Problems Installing 16581 Catalytic Converter Support Bracket

Walker® Ultra® direct-fit catalytic converter part number 16581 fits specific GM vehicles that utilize a unique converter support bracket secured with a single bolt and a locating tab designed to fit into a slot in the engine block.

The slot can be easy to miss, and service providers who are not aware of this feature might find it difficult to correctly align the bracket, leading to incorrect installation or even a decision not to reinstall the bracket at all. Both cases described above could have a negative impact on durability and length of the service life of the catalytic converter. Bottom line: improper support bracket installation can shorten the catalytic converter's service life.

Solution: Alignment is Key

Service providers installing Walker Ultra converter part number 16581 should ensure the original support bracket is reinstalled in the correct mounting location. When aligned correctly, the mounting hole on the support bracket will line up with the rod hanger loop hole on the converter, allowing the reinstallation of the bolts to secure both components together.
